Job Purpose

The Technical Manager will report to the Amcor Flexibles’ Monceau site manager within the Meat Fresh & Dairy Business Unit of Amcor Flexibles EMEA. This role has 2 direct reports. The Technical Manager is responsible for the realization of the Operations through the improvement of the production process, as well as the industrialization of new products and management of innovation requirements.

Job Dimensions & Scope

Monceau AF site employees approximately 100 employees with a 25M€ turnover. It is predominantly focused on the Meat & Cheese Packaging manufacturing.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Lead process improvements on site
  • Supervise and develop the technical team
  • Ensure the site based team provides effective support to the manufacturing operation in respect of policing quality systems.
  • Ensure appropriate technical evaluation of products is completed in order to ensure customer requirements are met in full.
  • Provide the effective management of innovation needs of the customer base, inclusive of “blue sky thinking”, from concept to full commercialisation of product.
  • Supervise and support tasks related to the tests, samples and new designs in collaboration with the Sales team and pre-press teams.
  • Follow up of innovation on external technology (machine, materials, pre-press tools) analyze the need and benefit from these innovation in collaboration with the management team.
  • Coordinate in the plant of AFEMEA European initiatives, as well as technology transfers
  • Define production standards and keep them up to date in the ERP (used for pricing and costing)
  • Provide technical support for the definition and implementation of new CAPEX
  • Ensure that the Methods meet group requirements (Security, etc.)
  • Drive the continuous improvement of the production by analysing production KPI's and find innovative solutions to optimize these results
  • Complete analytical tasks in order to accurately measure performance against standard KPIs.
  • Manage key projects (e.g. installations; plant improvements; upkeep of facility; volume transfer between plants, etc.)
  • Ensure application and enforcement of all company policies and procedures
  • Actively participate in the development of “green packaging” solutions and the Sustainability projects
  • Be the point of contact between the Business Development & Sales Function and the plant
  • Liase with customers and suppliers, on a proactive and reactive basis in cooperation with the sales

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Formal Qualifications and Experience
  • University Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar
  • Min. 4 years of experience in production processes or in a manufacturing organization
  • Experience in printing and conversion process
  • Experience in rotogravure would be an asset
  • Experience working with new products or R&D would be an asset
  • Experience in technical project management
  • Knowledge of Quality standards
    Fluent French & English

  • Specific Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent knowledge of process, materials, finished and semi-finished products
  • Ability to keep abreast of technical innovations in products & materials and integrate them into site processes.
