Staff Engineer Platform

Street Contxt’s Staff Engineers are highly experienced, hands-on contributors responsible for the most technically demanding changes to our products, processes and customer experience. Amongst the most senior members of our Engineering Team, Staff Engineers are responsible for spearheading the delivery of stable, secure, enterprise-grade software that our customers depend on to operate their businesses. The impact of their technical leadership is felt directly by the customers they delight, the teammates they unblock, and the product opportunities their work enables. In this role, you will be expected to take ownership of large portions of our system and which portions of the system will be informed by interest and skill. We encourage your participation and leadership in everything from high-level product design down to the nitty-gritty of implementation.

Staff Engineers architect the Street Contxt platform collaboratively, and their expertise is sought throughout the entire software development lifecycle. They ensure the quality of code within their team and guide the team to improve code structure and maintainability. They are expected to communicate effectively with functions outside of Engineering and are persistent in the face of roadblocks. Staff Engineers motivate and empower their teammates to achieve a higher level of performance through code reviews, documentation, technical standards/guidance, and technical mentorship. We work in small teams and are bought into the power of service ownership.

Research & Development is well represented in the core, founding team at Street Contxt which means that we work with the best tools for the job. We currently use Java, Scala, Akka Streams, jOOQ, React, NodeJS, PostgreSQL, PyTorch, Tensorflow, Redis, Docker, AWS, Github, and CircleCI. Our system is comprised of a retreating monolith surrounded by a collection of microservices that are scrutinized through automated tests. We’re less fussed about how long you’ve been working with these particular (or similar) technologies and more interested in your knowledge and perspective about them. If tech is more of a passion than a pastime, we are confident you’ll quickly learn what you don’t know about our stack.
