The Small Molecule API Process Research and Development (API SM PRD) department is seeking a Senior Scientist to join our team in Beerse, Belgium . Our goal is to find innovative ways towards new synthetic routes and solutions that enable large scale manufacturing of target molecules. The Senior Scientist will collaborate in a team with chemists, engineers, analysts, crystallization and safety experts to design the best manufacturing processes. These cross functional teams work closely together with the pilot plants and bridge with commercial production, both internally as well as with external partners. The Senior Scientist will assume leadership roles for process development projects or strategic initiatives as needed and appropriate.

Ph. D. in Organic chemistry or similar with 5 or more years of industrial experience in multi-step organic synthesis and process development/implementation
or
Master in Organic chemistry or similar with 10 or more years of industrial experience in multi-step organic synthesis and process development / implementation
Process chemistry knowledge, understanding of scale-up and process engineering aspects
Demonstrated creativity and innovation in problem solving
Passionate to work in the lab and able to perform chemical experiments in state-of-the-art chemical laboratories
Excellent oral and written communication skills, fluent in English both verbal and in writing
Team player mentality, the ability to collaborate in a diverse team environment to find solutions for complex problems, willing to challenge the status quo in a constructive manner
DIFFERENTIATING COMPETENCIES
Project management skills
Hands-on experience in pilot or large-scale manufacturing plants
Familiarity with compliance requirements within cGMP, safety and regulatory environments
Knowledge of automated synthesis approaches and lab reactors and/or high throughput experimentation set-ups
Expertise or a keen interest in handling large data sets, artificial intelligence, molecular modeling and machine learning
