Primary responsibilities (include, but are not limited to)

  • Propose novel and actionable ideas to tackle virus infections, aligned with internal and external scientific strategies and demands.
  • Design and execute molecular, cellular and in vivo experiments to test these ideas.
  • Demonstrate creative and analytical capabilities to interpret, troubleshoot and report on complex data. Basic statistical knowledge is mandatory.
  • Analyze and document experimental data in laboratory notebooks and prepare SOPs
  • Present scientific data to colleagues and peers.
  • Keep up to date with literature, conferences, patents, competition landscape related to the relevant field in support of research and assay development.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders of all functions and external parties (both academic and industrial) on a daily basis.
  • Mentor students & junior scientists.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree or equivalent in virology, immunology, cell biology, molecular biology or related disciplines.

  • Previous productive post-doctoral experience in a high-quality academic, biotech or pharmaceutical environment is a plus.

  • Specialization in virology and immunology.

  • Experience in infectious disease research working in a BSL2+/3 laboratory.

  • FELASA B/C certification (or equivalent) to conduct in vivo experimentation.

  • Hands-on in vivo experience with clinically relevant readouts for Respiratory viruses (viral parameters, SpO2, lung function, BALF analysis…) is a plus.

  • Hands-on experience of various primary mammalian tissue culture techniques (expansion, transfection, transduction, cloning, immunocytochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, colorimetric/fluorescence/luminescent plate readers…) is a plus.

  • Hands on experience in biochemistry and molecular biology (protein production, protein characterization, SPR, PCR, …) is a plus.

  • Drug discovery experience is considered a plus.

  • Willing to spend at least 50% of the time in the lab.
