R&D CHEMISTS M/V

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• developing project plans for the development of new products, production methods or product compositions at the request of an account manager or internal customers; to this end taking into account business objectives and / or limiting factors regarding products, product applications and production processes.
• scaling up and producing new products in the test phase of the project up to and including trial production run.
• evaluating new or alternative raw materials through testing in the R&D lab and then in production, or directly in production; if positive, include it in new project design; to this end also contacting and consultation.
• examining new process to produce our existing products more efficiently or enhance the product performance for new applications.
• optimizing the production process by statistical analysis
• preparing MOC request and MSDS request for new finished products and new raw materials.
• drafting and adapting work instructions, procedures, specifications and technical data sheets (TDS), so that production according to specifications can be guaranteed.
• managing and adapting formulations at the request of internal stakeholders.
• checking whether information on the batch card is in accordance with the formula from the MOC; signaling deviations to production / QC.
• presenting project results during sales / technical and project meetings.
• answering technical questions following customer visits or at the request of R&D colleagues in other locations based on research data or know-how.
• investigating technical complaints or claims relating to (formulation of) products in consultation with the QC Manager.
• training account managers, new colleagues and technical employees, employed at the customers, regarding product properties and application possibilities
• co) guiding process improvement projects in collaboration with process engineering, operations and M&E.
• performing physico-chemical tests (such as GPC, GC, particle size determination) using laboratory equipment according to established standards; for this purpose also setting and calibrating measuring equipment.
• ordering indirect materials R&D and QC lab according to procedure in collaboration with the QC department; To this end, also draw up a cost estimate for (preventive) replacement of measuring equipment.
• providing technical support for the innovation department.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge

• Thorough knowledge of chemistry.
• Thorough knowledge of products and its applications.
• In-depth knowledge of making and printing inks.
• Knowledge of coatings.
• Knowledge of production processes and installations.
• Applied knowledge of the applicable legal and other EHS requirements and company regulations.
• Thorough knowledge of English.

Technical skills

• Use of PC, peripherals, office applications and company-specific software.
• Operating, setting and calibrating measuring equipment.
• Operating lab and pilot reactors.
• Determining odors and distinguishing colors.
• Drawing up formulas, procedures, processes and specifications.
• Performing GPC / GC analyzes.
• Performing measurements for the specific field

Communication skills

• Management (technical): giving instructions to production employees and project team members when scaling up products.
• Internal: consulting with international R&D colleagues regarding extra product information or insights regarding upscaling, efficiency and / or safe working; attending and contributing to work meetings with different departments (production, purchasing, safety) in Dutch and English.
• External: contacting customers, in consultation with the account manager, when answering technical questions; consult with possible suppliers (direct and indirect goods) in consultation with the purchasing department; in Dutch and English.
