Introduction

The National Bank of Belgium is looking for an English (native speaker or equivalent) Editor and Translator for its Translation & Rewriting Division.

 

The English-speaking Editor/Translator works for the Translation & Rewriting Division of the Bank’s Communication Service, which is responsible for publishing day-to-day, monthly, quarterly press releases on the economy, banking and insurance sectors and central bank activities.

 

He/she also works closely with the Economics and Research Department in the compilation of articles for the Economic Review (published in English three times a year), Working Papers, occasional papers for journals, press releases on surveys, statistics, economic forecasts, etc.

 

The English-speaking Rewriter is responsible for coordinating yearly production of the NBB’s Annual Report, Corporate Report, Financial Stability Report and Financial Markets Infrastructures Report. This involves close coordination with external translators and economists and the graphic design team.

 

He/she also provides a general advisory service for English language questions throughout the Bank.

Your responsibilities

  • contribute to drafting and editing highly qualified economic and financial reports through rewriting and editorial support
  • help to explain often technical concepts simply, clearly, and concisely for a wider readership
  • advise both economists and translators on written, statistical, and financial reports
  • help with translating both general and technical texts from French and Dutch into English
  • coordinate production and proofreading of several annual reports in English, working closely with the authors and layout staff.

Your profile

  • hold a university degree in Economic Science and Modern Languages or European Economic Studies or have equivalent experience in writing, translating and rewriting texts on economic and financial matters
  • be English-speaking but have a very good knowledge of Dutch and French (N.B. the written and oral assessment will be in French or Dutch)
  • possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • have experience with European legislation in the field of economic and monetary affairs, banking and financial services, or be willing to thoroughly familiarise themselves with these areas
  • be able to work independently but also be flexible in contacts with colleagues from different Departments and Services
  • be able to cope well with stress and deadlines
  • pay particular attention to professional standards and confidentiality.
