Engineering Manager

We are looking for a hands-on manager to join our small foundational team here at Iron Fish in SF (or remote) where you can work alongside engineers from companies like Airbnb, Facebook, Microsoft, and Uber.

We are a small startup and have support from some of the top VCs in the cryptocurrency world (Electric Capital (Avichal Garg), Elad Gil, Metastable (Naval Ravikant and Lucas Ryan), A Capital (Kartik Talwar), Slow Ventures (Jill Carlson), Dylan Field (Figma), John Lilly, Jack Abraham (Atomic), Juan Benet (Filecoin), Jack Chou, Balaji Srinivasan, Lemniscap (Roderik van der Graaf), James Prestwich, and Linda Xie). 

Iron Fish mission is to enable free flow of assets through easy to use, accessible, and private cryptocurrency transactions.

What should I expect working here? You will be challenged and always learning. This project spans concepts of distributed systems, heavy-duty cryptography, UI/UX challenges of simplifying complex information, cross-chain communication, and much more.

You will be encouraged to think about world economies and what it takes to build a universal privacy layer for all crypto assets. You will build tools to bring equality to the global economy so that everyone has access to complete financial sovereignty.

What you’ll do:

• Organize, lead and contribute to engineering efforts while demonstrating total ownership of projects, cycles, and programs.

• Lead and inspire a high-performing engineering team to build and scale a highly secure, reliable and performant blockchain 
• Recruit, coach, and mentor the best engineering and management talent

What We’re Looking For:

• You have a Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, a related field of study, or equivalent professional experience.
• 3+ years’ experience as an Engineering Manager 
• You have years of experience leading across the software development lifecycle, including deep knowledge of best practices surrounding Git and GitHub, pull requests and code reviews, continuous integration and delivery, and post-deployment monitoring and analysis.
• You're passionate about creating compelling user experiences.
• You're a problem solver, and you value passing on your knowledge and methodologies to create a force-multiplier effect.
• You have ample experience advising, coaching, and mentoring peers, direct reports, and less experienced team members.
• You understand how to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues in non-technical roles, such as human resources, finance, and legal.
• You have a global mindset with ability to think about culture, language, and other aspects when putting the customer at the center of all outcomes
• Ability to influence at all levels of the organization and across multiple domains
• You actively write code in some capacity, and you're very confident in your technical abilities. Experience as a technical lead or manager of two or more software engineers.

Nice to haves:

• Proficiency in project management, planning and estimation, and documentation of practices and processes.
• Experience in building Layer-1s.
• Experience in developing and/or maintaining open source projects. 
• Experience working in a startup environment.
