Role:

The Director, International Policy Communications leads efforts to build and protect company reputation in the areas of reimbursement, patient access and public policy in international markets. The individual will use communications strategies to proactively shape the external reimbursement, patient access and policy environment and will serve as a strategic communications advisor to key internal partners.

This role is critical in developing and driving communications and public affairs strategies to amplify key above market policy driven programs. In that capacity, this individual contributes to the enterprise narrative around pricing, access and policy with messaging relevant to the international environment. That includes consistent approaches related to reimbursement, patient access, and policy thought leadership opportunities.

This individual will have strong experience and relationships interacting with international policy focused media and will lead both proactive and reactive strategies with that media. Additionally, the role acts as company communications representative with key trade associations and in identifying engagement opportunities and shaping those trade association’s communications.

Internally, the individual will be a strategic communications advisor, creating evergreen frameworks, standard operating procedures and governance around the exchange of corporate pricing, access and policy communications, policy stakeholder engagement strategies and pull through practices. While the role will not work directly on market specific execution, these tools and approaches will benefit in-market efforts.

Further, this role works to engage and educate employees on key policy issues. The role facilitates understanding of positions taken by the company and provides partnership to employee communications in communicating around policy issues and approaches

The scope of this role will span across various priority markets in across two BMS regions: Major Markets and Intercontinental. The role will work closely with the Global Policy and Government Affairs team, the International Corporate Affairs team, and key market corporate affairs leads.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive communications and public affairs programming for above market reimbursement and patient access educational efforts in collaboration with the Global Policy & Government Affairs (GPGA), market access, advocacy and media relations team. Play critical role of connecting the dots and ensuring alignment amongst internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop pull through guidance and tools for priority markets to leverage campaigns’ benefits in their communications, programs and practices.
  • Support International Corporate Affairs (ICA) teams to leverage and customize global policy campaigns for execution within their priority markets.
  • Develop and refine standards and principles of engagement with external stakeholders to support reimbursement and patient access goals. Socialize standards with GPGA, ICA, market access, patient access and other relevant teams.
  • Work with internal partners to assess the global public policy environment’s impact on health systems’ reimbursement and access outlook, and identify communications surround sound opportunities to support future policy objectives.
  • Partner with the US policy communications lead to understand the impact of US public policy environment on international health systems and governments.
  • Partner with reputation team colleagues to identify impactful, patient-centered thought leadership opportunities across international programs and efforts that reinforce BMS’s policy, pricing, and access narrative.
  • Create and coordinate dissemination and rollouts of corporate announcements, holding statements, narratives, frameworks and toolkits related to pricing, access and policy across key internal stakeholders and markets. Advise teams with recommended communications approaches and best practices.
  • Maintain and foster international health policy media relationships.
  • Advise senior executives with communications support related to pricing, access and policy, and other BMS corporate narratives.
  • Serve as communications representative for key trade associations such as EFPIA and IFPMA.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of policy or policy communications and corporate communications experience in pharmaceutical or similar highly-regulated industry
  • Proven experience driving successful global policy communications and public affairs initiatives
  • Exceptional collaboration skills
  • Strong external stakeholder engagement skills
  • Superior written, presentation, facilitation and interpersonal communications skills
  • Ability to engage and persuade a wide variety of audiences
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
