The team you'll be part of

Nokia Bell Labs Core Research is hiring recent graduates for a position in System on Chip (SoC) research. A successful candidate will join the leading research team focusing on groundbreaking solutions for Nokia’s telecommunications oriented SoCs. Our multi-disciplinary and cross-location team has a track record of delivering innovative solutions which form the foundation of Nokia’s market-leading access products.

What you will learn and contribute to


  • Identifying and performing groundbreaking research on novel ASIC technologies in Bell Labs.
  • Defining and contributing to medium/long-term business impacting research programs.
  • Acting as technical advisor towards various internal and external stakeholders through technical cooperation, customer visits & knowledge transfers.

Main Responsiblities include:


  • Identify and explore new, differentiating SoC solutions through modelling, simulation, prototyping and ASIC realizations of digital building blocks.
  • Extract high-quality intellectual property from theoretical and experimental work.
  • Grow and represent the digital SoC research competence with key stakeholders.
  • Create & maintain strong collaborations with other Nokia locations & programs

Your skills and experience

  • Curiosity to seek and overcome technology challenges.
  • Capability to define and create “out-of-the-box” SoC solutions to complex theoretical, experimental, and business relevant problems.
  • Execution in realization of game-changing hardware solution.
  • Strong ownership of own work with effective collaboration as part of a diverse, multi-site team.
  • Continuous learning, mastering and creation of new leading-edge ASIC technologies improving Nokia product portfolio.

Position Requirements:


  • Expertise in areas of high-speed/low power electronics and digital signal processing in ASICs & FPGAs.
  • Knowledge & hands-on experience with system simulation & ASIC design tools and programming languages.
  • Experience in end-to-end ASIC design flow is a plus.
  • Strong background in digital signal processing and computer architectures.
  • Expertise in embedded (multi-core) processor architectures.
  • Understanding of analog vs. digital trade-offs.
  • Experience & affinity with experimental lab setups & high-end test equipment.
  • Quick learner, able to identify & research new ASIC & network technologies.
  • Strong & open mindset with drive for success.
  • Readiness to be challenged outside your comfort zone to achieve top results.
  • Fluent in English and a natural communicator in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Education Required: Master or PhD in (applied) engineering sciences
