The DevOps team at Splash is looking to add a talented engineer to help us build exceptional developer experiences, maintain the security of our platform, and improve the observability and resilience of our databases and systems.

As a member of the team, you will get the opportunity to help manage AWS cloud resources using infrastructure as code practices, design, and build developer tools, ensure application database health and resiliency. You will interface with our development teams mentoring and implementing best practices and standards for database resiliency and monitoring.

This is a remote first position, but may require annual or semi-annual visits to the Cleveland, OH office for company gatherings.

What will you do at Splash?

Work with engineering teams to design and implement cloud database infrastructure following best practices and industry standards utilizing AWS cloud technologies & services. Maintain and enhance existing database security and monitoring solutions. Adhering to best practices in securely storing, backing up, and archiving data. Safeguarding existing data against unauthorized access. Perform regular database disaster recovery tasks. Perform database tuning and optimization. Provide guidance and assistance with performance issues related to database usage. Identify areas of potential concern and proactively address these with the process stakeholders, including suggested alternatives in process, and the creation of repeatable maintenance tasks.

What makes you a good fit?

A minimum of 5 years experience in database engineering. In-depth knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL). Strong knowledge and experience with database design, performance tuning, query optimization, and indexes. Proficient in one or more programming languages (preferably python) and develops automation to deploy and maintain systems. Experience with Cloud Databases and Cloud Data Pipeline technologies Strong written and verbal communication skills Experience working with Postgres and MySQL. Microsoft SQL Server experience a plus.

What makes you stand out as a candidate? Hands-on working knowledge of AWS Databases such as RDS, Aurora, DocumentDB. Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure ‘as code’ tooling Ability to manage multiple priorities, commitments, and projects. Ability to influence and drive consensus on multiple technical views. 2+ years of experience with core AWS platform architecture Proven expertise in building automation solutions using any scripting language.
