Who We Need & What You’ll Do    The Art Director of the AccuWeather Network is responsible for defining the visual expression for AccuWeather’s cable, OTT, and digital VOD platforms. Responsible for advancing the design, production and implementation of all on-air graphics, we are looking for an enthusiastic creative who is a strategic thinker and excels at creating compelling storytelling experiences. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands how to juggle multiple priorities, has a high level of ownership, and is able to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Key to this role is that you are equally comfortable giving direction, as well as rolling up your sleeves to build the work you envision, all while delivering a superior visual product on deadline.

Job Responsibilities 

Own all aspects of AccuWeather Network’s design function, collaborating with partners across the company to understand the visual needs of each platform  

Set and maintain a high standard of broadcast weather graphic quality for the AccuWeather Network and forecast videos on AccuWeather.com 

Collaborate with the Brand & Design Operations team to ensure the overall look and feel of the AccuWeather Network aligns with brand standards, while still remaining dynamic and actionable for viewers  

Collaborate seamlessly with AccuWeather meteorologists, broadcasters and producers to prepare accurate on-camera news graphics  

Train, and mentor, producers, broadcasters and weather graphic team to ensure they create top notch on-air weather graphics that tell a compelling story. Our primary on graphics system is Ross Xpression.  

Develop and lead production processes to optimize output and ensure that the large volume of daily requests are completed on time 

Develop, manage, and refine motion graphic pattern libraries and guidelines 

Maintain a strong working relationship with all business partners, such as Ross Xpression  

Represent the company respectfully at any conference(s) required of you, adhering to all AccuWeather policies and expectations 

Collaborate seamlessly with AccuWeather meteorologists, broadcasters and producers to prepare accurate on-camera news graphics  

Ability to work in the fast-paced and demanding environment of live television 

Position is remote, but would be expected to travel to our office in State College Pa. and NYC as needed 

Empower and mentor designers to foster a cohesive, committed, passionate, productive, and positive environment for a growing team 

Adhere to all department policies

Job Qualifications 

5+ years of professional experience in a multi-platform, live news environment 

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Computer Science or equivalent professional experience 

Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, video editing software (Premiere, Final Cut), and other 2D and 3D software 

Knowledge of Ross Xpression  

Knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems 

Exceptional eye for detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality 

Experience with high-caliber design content and typography 

Demonstrated ability to be a creative and strategic team player 

Passionate about weather and storytelling 

Motivated collaborator with an ability to work well across departments, with or without direct supervision 

Comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly energetic atmosphere 

Ability to design within brand guidelines and create guidelines as needed 

Strong knowledge of grammar and composition rules required for editing and proofreading 

Strong project management skills and experience 

Ability to effectively communicate in the broadcast style 

Superior customer service skills  

Distinct portfolio with a highly refined aesthetic 

Must be available to work weekends, evenings, holidays and overnights if needed to fill in
